This is WHAT --- Teton Toyota --- calls "STRICK Proceedures" and "Supervisory Oversight."
I have been taken my 2006 Toyota Highlander to Teton Toyota since 2017 for service.
On Jan 23, 2025 I took my 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid in for servicing at Teton Toyota in Idaho Falls for the normal lube which was suppose to include, among other things, a free car wash. Within 10 or so minutes of dropping off the car I was told by a service advisor, Mr. JR Flores, that I needed to have cabin and engine air filter replaced and the fluid exchanged on the hybrid and engine cooling system.
Within minutes, the service manage advised me that I needed to have the hybrid coolant plate resealed on the transmission because it was leaking. (I don’t know what that is but if it were leaking should I have been able to see stains on my garage floor? This vehicle has never left any oil or any other stains on the garage floor. It seems rather strange.?
Then I was advised by the service manager that the threads on the oil pan were bad and I was given to option to get an oversize drain plug installed or to replace the pan. I ONLY opted to replace the oil pan because it was always my understanding that oversize drain plugs never really work well.
The service advisor, told me it would be two days until my car would be finished and that Teton Toyota would provide a courtesy car for me to use for those two days since I live about a hundred miles from Teton Toyota. This they did! Thank you.
On the 25th my wife and I returned to pick up our vehicle. I previously told them that I needed the drain pan and that I wanted to see for myself that the threads had not been striped versus just worn out. The old drain pan was in the vehicle when we picked it up. {I will get back to this part later.}
We talked to their service manager. He stated that they replaces about 4 drain pans per year because threads just ware out and that we could probably expect it to go bad again in another 165,000 miles. I was a very surprised at that explanation. Two of my favorite cars are Hondas and Toyotas. I always felt that Toyotas was just slightly better than Hondas. Now I know they must be inferior. My Honda accord has 350,000 miles without any oil pan threads being worn out. My Nissan Frontier pickup has 200,000 miles has never had worn out threads in the oil pan. I guess Toyotas are just made inferior? Actually, I have NEVER owned a vehicle where the drain pan threads wore out. Sounds to me that Toyotas must really be a lemon.
Anyway, Zac assured us that their supervisory oversight made it impossible for any technician to mess up the threads. He said the mechanic, who changes the oil, was mostly unskilled but was monitored very closely because they could make mistakes. He very much implied that they are monitored step by step even down to the removal of the drain pan plug and inspecting the threads in the drain pan.

When we left Teton Toyota, my wife commented that they had not washed the car as was stated on the invoice. When we were about 50 miles out of town traveling at highway speeds I had to stop the car and shut the hood because it had not been shut by Teton Toyota. About five miles later the maintenance required warning light etc lit up. Teton Toyota had not reset the maintenance required switch after servicing either.
I emailed Teton Toyota when we got home I notified Teton Toyota that (1) the hood had not shut and (2) the maintenance required reset had not been done after they had changed the oil. I also ask for directions on how to reset the maintenance required system.

As a follow on, our trip home indicated just how effective all the “strict procedures” outlined by Teton Toyota are. Would the hood have been shut if “strict procedures” had been followed? Would the maintenance required system been reset if “strict procedures” were followed? Would the ‘free’ car wash been done if “strict procedures” were followed. This service job shows gross incompetence and NO real procedures being followed. If they had been none of this would have happened.
They did email me the procedure to reset the maint required system; however, it was incomplete and I spent most of a day figuring out what was missing.

High pressure sale, poor quality work!!!
Bought a Toyota, brand new 18 miles off the lot. High pressure sell, of all the extras, to an elderly women with poor credit. This car has never been quite right. Argued with Teton Toyota several times over the last six years of this cars warranty. Stranded elderly women in Salt Lake downtown traffic. With no way for her to get the car to move (keyless ignition, anti-theft). Last year Teton Toyota had to change out the vehicles battery. At which time they said they'd change the oil. Check the air and cabin filter. Fix a passenger tail light. Was informed then, if it was trickle charged during the winter months that should solve the battery dying/car starting problem!? Let's just say it didn't fix the battery dying/car starting problem. The six year warranty expired March of this year (2024). After being winterized, garage kept, trickle charged all winter. The Toyota did what it has done the last six years, it still didn't start. Called Teton Toyota, upset as this is the same problem the car has had the whole time, SINCE BOUGHT!! Well if I'd like, I could have it towed and they could try to diagnosis the problem (on my dime, now of course). I elected to take it to a mechanic shop I trust. Let's just say TETON TOYOTA isn't a reputable place to have a vehicle worked on!! And unless you need gaurnteed credit, not sure I'd trust any of the sales managers. Not really clear on when/if oil has ever been changed as claimed. Air/cabin filter wasn't changed, sure hasn't ever been replaced or checked. Tail light wasn't fixed. Battery was changed, but warning light that's always came on when this issue has happened was on, per usual(believe now, that this has just been reset and ignored). FOR THE LAST SIX YEARS!!! And who wants to drive a car if you have to worry about it starting/staying running properly?? And look at the mileage on this car. Yes, it has acquired 6,661 miles in the last 6 years. Take note of the engine oil color, this is a full synthetic?! You've been warned. I'm just glad there is at least some mechanic shops out there you can trust!!!

My 3 day lobotomy experience
The ever pleasant herd of employees meandering with nothing to do are quick to get you waiting to constantly ask for more and more documentation. Unfortunately when you are well informed and present the question to sales as to why a car that was sold at Wackerli for $23,000 new was suddenly increased to $25,795 (12.2%) after they did and oil change, resurface of the rotors, replaced the brake pads, and windshield wipers...they stop responding to you and send you a template email basically telling you to screw off.
Most folk do not use the resources that Teton Toyota use themselves to get informed, customer service should not be like getting a lobotomy with no anesthesia.
When you are in customer service, you dont ignore facts because you are money hungry

The Worst of the Worst
I bought my first new car at age 17 with cash for $1800, it was a 54 Chev. white/red coupe, 59 Chev., 64 Saab, 65 Saab, then a 69 Ford F150 4x4 with a camper on the bed, a 76 Ford 4x4, a Datsun 280Z car, 79 Ford F150 4x4, a Datsun 280Z 2+2, a Datsun 280Z twin-turbo, an 80 Isuzu Trooper, 88 MAZDA RX 7, a 1990 Mitsubishi SUV, 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR 4 Twin Turbo 4x4, 1998 Ford exp. 4x4, 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe 4x4, 2005 Ford F150 4x4, 2008 Ford Exp. 4x4, 2012 Toyota Prius, and a 2017 Ford Escape 4x4.

After all that I found the worst dealer to be Teton Toyota. Ignorant, arrogant, could care less personalities, and had no respect for their customers. It seems it is difficult for them to be respect vile to and for their clients. They can’t be bothered to communicate with others to complete and compile the information needed. They seem to get upset if they have to do something for you. They don’t offer to help. The sales dept is just as bad as the service dept. or even worse. My worst ever experiences have been at Teton Toyota. Toyota is a good company, but not all its dealers should represent them. The two problems were not overwhelming one’s, but rather simple. The staff was not capable of handling the problems at all, that includes people that answered the phone and others. Their staff has gone downhill for the last several years and would not ever set foot in there again. The very worst customer service ever!

Poor Service work and Did not Honor Warranty
This review is in regards to their repair shop. So I brought my 2010 Toyota Tundra in after driving it all the way from Texas doing a cross country trip. I was having engine problems and ended up leaving it there for over a month so they could repair it. They said it has a blown head gasket and they fixed it. It cost us like 5000 dollars and they said they would warrant the work. By the time I had driven it back to Texas the motor was having severe issues again. I took it into a local Toyota dealership here in Texas and the mechanics said there was no seal anymore and it was most certainly caused by poor work at the dealership in Idaho. So even their own Toyota partners were saying it was 100% their fault but yet they wouldn't accept any responsibility whatsoever and claimed this wasn't under warranty. Be very careful before having any major work done here as they are liars and thrives...I will be reporting this to the BBB. This happened last summer and I'm just not getting around to this.

Disappointed
We were charged for replacement of a defective (cracked) housing for the Highlander's oil filter. It was replaced with a metal housing, whereas the original one apparently was plastic, and susceptible to cracking. All oil services performed to the vehicle were by Toyota, so if the filter housing was improperly attached or handled, it was the fault of Toyota. We were told that the original filter housings fail frequently, which says to me that it's a known defect and should have been corrected by Toyota, at Toyota's expense, and replaced with the more durable metal housing. We were told our warranty excludes oil changes, oil filters, etc. but this was not a filter, it was a defective housing that's not expected to require replacement at every oil change.

Great Experience. Awesome staff!
We drove from New Mexico to Idaho to purchase my 2016 Ram Rebel. Price could not be beat! Christian always had answers to our questions over the phone before we agreed to purchase. He sent us additional pictures. I LOVE my Rebel and have received TONS of compliments on it!! The Finance woman, Kelly, was such a delight! She was very personable and very knowledgeable! I would buy from Teton again.

Great experience
I just bought a brand new 2018 Sequoia from Teton Toyota. The service was great, the price was great, and they got me in and out of there quickly. My sales rep Justin Coates was friendly and great to work with, Aaron Carter the General Sales Manager was professional and kind, and the finance department got my paperwork together and we were in and out of there in no time. Great experience!!!
