Had work done at two of the other shops nothing but issues lies and overcharging at the Carol Stream location
In the past couple years, depending on the location is which shop I have gone to in about two years I’ve probably spent over $8000 in repairs with these guys first time I go to the one in Carol Stream I was having some coolant and heat issues so they tell me oh it’s the thermostat which is not like the old school swap out. I’m about 20 minutes cost 600 some dollars little over a week later temperatures still going up and mind you they had flush the radiator all this other kind of stuff so then when I bring it back in, he told me oh there’s a leak in the radiator, why didn’t you find that when you were flushing it when you replaced the thermostat so now another $1400 for a new radiator and installation when my car went in. Everything else was working fine but now I don’t have any windshield washer fluid squirting on the front windshield which is a little tough to drive in the winter without that, so I went in there the other day they had it for four hours put a new windshield washer pump and then they come out and say oh well maybe something went wrong with your wiring nothing went wrong with my wiring in that short period of time and you guys don’t want to fix it they had to pull the front clip off to get the radiator out and I’m sure that’s when they messed up my windshield washer fluid incident. The rear one works fine I asked them could they switch the hose from the working pump to the front windshield wiper they looked at me like I was dumb , I guarantee you the Carol Stream location made it so you lost a customer at any of your locations. I will also be speaking to a lawyer about this as you guys know that you messed up. I just don’t want to fix the issue at your cost.

Ended up with a totaled car
Please, if you’re a female do NOT bring your car here. I was stupid enough to think they wouldn’t take advantage of me because of their very friendly customer service.

I brought my car in for coolant leaks, paid $1600 (I had been told by others to expect that price) two weeks later I hit a pot hole and blew two tires. They had mentioned to me when I had my coolant leaks fix that they’d like me to bring it back in a week or so to check for an oil leak. So when my car went in for the tires I asked them to check for the oil leak. They told me it would be $1900 to fix the oil leaks, $400+ for the tires (normal) and that my rims were bent, I agreed to replace them for $800+. When I got my car back they never reset my tire reading, I had a friend do it so whatever. Two or so days later my car started burning through and smelling of coolant again. I was out of town and had a friend look at it. They had broken the clasp of the coolant hose. Then my car started dinging about low oil pressure but only for maybe a second or two and very randomly. Never long enough or close enough for panic. I figured my sensor was just acting up because I had work done. Till I got in my car started driving the other day, I couldn’t accelerate well, jerking and the low oil pressure warning wouldn’t stop. I wasn’t in a place I could pull over just yet, then I saw white smoke pouring out of the back of my car.

I spent $1900 for them to fix my oil leaks, maybe a month or two before just to end up with my car totaled due to oil leaks that were not fixed. Now I’m out not only an entire car but also thousands of dollars due to them taking advantage of me and my car completely totaled. Please please do not put your trust in this business.

Fixed RV pin connector on Jeep
First, i want to say that Chris was great to work with! Professional, knowledgeable and easy to work with.
I had a problem with a connector on my car that plugs into my RV. Needed to have it removed (corroded) and a new one put on and wired.
Although this is not in their scope, they did this for me and now it works perfectly.
they also spliced some wires underneath that came apart.
Very happy with the customer service working with Chris.
This was at the Oswego location.

Read the one stars! Not the 5 stars receiving discounts for positive reviews.
This location in Oswego, IL provided me with great quality work until about a year of me going here they went down hill. Inexperienced mechanics who break parts on your car and attempt to give it back broken until you notice your self.
The alignment was way off so I took it to another location they caused me of doctoring photos, this not being their shop, they finally called the “technician” who worked on my car and had a POW wow while I sat waiting for a half hour. The manager kept asking how much the other alignment was, why I went there, and finally said I need a receipt or I can’t help you.

The manager should have stated he needed a receipt from the beginning. This does not excuse that my alignment was off when I picked the car up. Honestly last time I will be going to Bartel’s. For a place that acts highly certified and like they are professional perhaps they could properly trim “technicians” how to do their work properly. Only people who are trained is managers to persuade you your car has other problems when it really just needs an actual certified technician to look at your vehicle!
Their prices are a few dollars under a dealerships price, the smarter choice is to just going to a dealership for your work or check other local locations.

Highly disappointed with my experience at this location as I have been here several times in the past year and I’m just now realizing they are just looking for a costumer to come back with new problems every month. Look for another cash cow. The owner of Bartel’s would be highly dis satisfied if he actually stepped foot in this place.

Check out suburban tire, firestone, or preferably Chevy,Ford, & other reputable dealers.

No Integrity!!!!
When I brought my car here there was no damage to my vehicle... there own pre inspection reveals that, now there is a huge crack in windshield, and the Bartels are insisting that I created the crack 3 days earlier changing battery...and it took a while to reveal itself!!!!! Don't try Bartels

WAY too expensive for the parts/labor
Went in to replace a ball joint. Took about 1 hour and 30 minutes, the parts were $70 and labor was $330. I find that overpriced for an hour and a half, but I could live with it. My surprise was when i had got home and found that they broke off about 1/3rd of the wheel stud and decided not to let me know. I had a bad wheel bearing as well and they quoted $850 for it. $250 for parts and $600 for labor. I declined, and decided to do the bearing myself. The parts were $100 and all the tools to do it were about $100 as well. After doing the bearing myself and realizing that with the proper tools it doesnt take long, I feel that $600 for labor is borderline insulting.

Now for the reason I added a second star. They acted quite professional and were easygoing. Not rude in the slightest. Actually quite cool people. But their prices (at least for my situation) were unnecessarily high.

EXPENSIVE
I had my brake lines replaced on my vehicle. They charged me 6.5 hours of labor for custom bending and installation for 6ft of line.

230% markup on part
I will never, ever, ever step into a Bartels again. My wife's Caravan needed new rear brakes-$1189.22. On the receipt they gave the exact NAPA product numbers for the parts they replaced. The parts cost $326.45. They charged me $750.60, a markup of $424.15, or 230%.

If this sounds reasonable, go there. I have the receipts to prove it.
